Location
Estuaries are found ‚Äčon the coast where fresh water like a river or a bay has access to the ocean.The largest estuary in the United States is Chesapeake Bay. It lies off the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by Maryland and Virginia. Another example of an estuary is the San Francisco Bay. It is located in Northern California and is surrounded by the cities of San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.

Estuary climate

The climate for the San Francisco Bay is mostly warm but can sometimes be a little cold. The San Francisco Bay has four seasons, which are spring, summer, fall, and winter. Even though there are four seasons the temperature changes often. For example it could be really cold in the summer and really warm in the winter. The average temperature for spring is 13.3 degrees Celsius. In summer the average temperature is 17.2 degrees Celsius. In fall the average temperature is 15.5 degrees Celsius. The average temperature in winter in the San Francisco Bay is 10.1 degrees Celsius. The average precipitation in the San Francisco Bay per year is 3 centimeters.

There are also four seasons in Chesapeake Bay. The average temperature in winter in Chesapeake Bay is 6 degrees Celsius. The average temperature in summer in Chesapeake Bay is 29.62 degrees Celsius. The average precipitation in the winter at Chesapeake Bay is 7.8 centimeters; in summer the average precipitation is 10.5 centimeters.
